Losing most of my first draft of my novel is still weighing heavily on my mind, I’m sad to say, and making it hard to launch back into the tale I was weaving. That’s the down side of being a writer.
If one works in a factory or a construction site, there is plenty of safety equipment available to protect you from on-the-job hazards. But for writers, there is no protection for the mind; if you get in a rut because of something like this, it’s not as easy as non-writers may think to break out of it and get rolling again.
Inevitably, one has two choices: either bite the bullet and start over, or move on to a different project. Unfortunately, I’m not completely decided between those two options, either.
